Overview

Register today for Emerald City Theatre’s Fall Classes 2018 for ages 2 – 15! Join our professional teaching artists for inclusive, ensemble-based instruction focused on self-confidence, collaboration, creative thinking, and having fun! No experience is necessary to enroll in any fall class except Advanced Youth Ensemble: Wicked and Advanced Teen Ensemble: Mean Girls.

Final Show Information

Ages 7 – 12 and 9 – 13 with regular class at the Athenaeum Theatre as well as Advanced Ensemble and Advanced Teen Ensemble will perform at a professional theater venue, iO Theater (1501 N. Kingsbury Ave) during the week of December 3 – 9. Tickets are available for purchase for $10/ticket. There are no ticket limits for any of our final shows, but seating is general first come, first served. All final shows have available standing room.

Parking is general street, non-metered. The kitchen and bar will be open during all performances! Class will begin at its normal start time at iO Theatre. Please email blind@emeraldcitytheatre.com with questions.

Age Ranges

Grown-Up & Me: Ages 2 – 4

  • Awaken your body, voice, and imagination!
  • Teaching artists will lead grown-up and child pairs in interactive, imaginative play. 
  • Please note: This class does not have a final show and runs for six weeks starting on September 11.

Ages 3.5 – 5

  • Early learners develop teamwork and confidence through creative play. 
  • Students explore the actor’s tools: the body, the voice, and the mind. 
  • No script or lines to memorize; students will create their own story! 

Ages 5 – 8  

  • An imaginative exploration of storytelling that emphasizes fun, confidence, and teamwork! 
  • Emerging readers learn simple lines, choreography, and music. 
  • Best for students who have attended full-day school or camp.

Ages 7 – 12

  • Confident readers will work with intermediate scripts, challenging music, and exciting choreography. 
  • Students will explore and develop acting and vocal technique. 
  • Classes will hold auditions for individual roles and students will be challenged to develop original and exciting characters. 

Ages 9 – 13

  • Budding young actors will be challenged with more advanced scripts, staging, songs, and choreography. 
  • Teaching artists will provide individualized feedback and reinforce acting fundamentals to help students develop advanced performance technique. 

Advanced Ensemble: Ages 7 – 13

  • Previous training culminates in a professional rehearsal environment. 
  • Students will perform on a professional stage at the end of the session. 
  • This class meets twice per week.
  • Admission to this class is by approval only. 

Advanced Teen Ensemble: Ages 11 – 15

  • Our most mature students continue to build professional-level skills and grow as performers in our most advanced class. 
  • Students will perform on a professional stage at the end of the session. 
  • This class meets once per week. 
  • Admission to this class is by approval only.

For Ages 3.5-5

Coco


Class Description:

Miguel Rivera has dreams of becoming a musician, but his family has banned music for generations. Campers will journey to the Land of the Dead on a mission to uncover the Riveras’ family history. With foot-tapping music and a heartwarming story, Coco’s final show will be sure to set the audience’s hearts singing!

For Ages 5-8

Beauty and the Beast


Class Description:

Be our guest on a journey through France and discover a world where candelabras speak, clocks sing, and a spell must be broken! Join bookish Belle and gregarious Gaston as they discover the truth about the brutish Beast in the local castle. With a variety of memorable characters, students will take on roles to tell a tale as old as time based on the classic film and hit Broadway musical. Students will present an enchanted final show on the last day of class!

Coco


Class Description:

But are their motives good or evil? Students will explore complex characters to create a final show that examines the choices we all have between good and evil.

Freaky Friday


Class Description:

When a mother and daughter magically switch bodies, it leads to a totally Freaky Friday! In this new musical adaptation of a comedy classic, Katherine and Ellie only have 24 hours to switch back before Katherine’s wedding! Students will explore catchy songs and creative problem-solving to create a final show that’s way more fun than freaky.

Grease


Class Description:

Get ready to hop in Greased Lightnin’ and ride back in time to Rydell High’s class of 1959! Campers will sing and dance to some classic songs from this rock ‘n’ roll musical. Join the T-Birds and Pink Ladies as they learn about the importance of friendship in a final show that will have everyone jumping and jiving!

Hamilton


Class Description:

Join Laurens, Lafayette, Mulligan, and Hamilton in the revolution that made America the country it is today. Our Hamilton-inspired camp will challenge students’ rhythm and storytelling skills while teaching about the founding of the country through contemporary rap, hip-hop, R&B, and pop music. This final show for family and friends on the last day of class is not to be missed!

ADVANCED ENSEMBLE: Wicked


Class Description:

Take a trip to the Emerald City with Elphaba, Glinda, and Fiyero. A smash-hit musical prequel to The Wizard of Oz, Wicked will take campers to the next level in their performance skills with fantastic music, dance, and a story of being true to yourself. Learn what makes the Wicked Witch wicked, and the Good Witch good. Campers will be sure to defy gravity during their final show. Admission into this camp is by approval only. Please fill out an application online; you will be notified if approved.

Hamilton


Class Description:

ADVANCED TEEN ENSEMBLE: Mean Girls: The Musical


Class Description:

Navigating high school is no joke, especially when you have to figure out if you’re predator or prey in the jungle of school cliques. A new musical adaptation of the hit movie explores what happens when new students adjust to high school’s politics. What is the cost of popularity…and is it worth it? Students will be challenged to explore character motivation and objectives in this fun comedy that gets at the heart of what it means to be a friend, an enemy, and a Plastic. Admission to this class is by approval only. Please fill out an application; you will be notified if approved.

Policy

Cancelation Policy

Emerald City Theatre has the right to cancel a class or camp one week prior to the start date. Refunds will be processed if a class is canceled.

No refunds available if purchaser drops a class or camp unless the spot can be filled from the waiting list. If a spot can be filled, a refund less a $25 administrative fee will be given.

Switching of days/titles of class or camp will also incur a $25 administrative fee. 

Final Show Policy

Ages 7-12, 9-13, and Advanced Ensembles with regular class locations at The Athenaeum Theatre will be performing their final shows in a professional theater location to be announced in the upcoming weeks!  Final show tickets for classes that perform on a professional stage will be made available for purchase. Classes in these age groups who meet at the Menomonee Club will also perform at the Menomonee Club.
