Overview

Register today for Emerald City Theatre’s Spring Classes 2018 for ages 2 – 13! Join our professional teaching artists for inclusive, ensemble-based instruction focused on self-confidence, collaboration, creative thinking, and having fun! No experience is necessary to enroll in any Spring Class except Advanced Ensemble: Seussical the Musical and Advanced Teen Ensemble: Best of Broadway.

Age Ranges

Grown-Up & Me: Ages 2 – 4

  • Awaken your body, voice, and imagination!
  • Teaching artists will lead grown-up and child pairs in interactive, imaginative play. 
  • Please note: This class does not have a final show and runs for six weeks starting on February 5.

Ages 3.5 – 5

  • Early learners develop teamwork and confidence through creative play. 
  • Students explore the actor’s tools: the body, the voice, and the mind. 
  • No script or lines to memorize; students will create their own story! 

Ages 5 – 8  

  • An imaginative exploration of storytelling that emphasizes fun, confidence, and teamwork! 
  • Emerging readers learn simple lines, choreography, and music. 
  • Best for students who have attended full-day school or camp.

Ages 7 – 12

  • Confident readers will work with intermediate scripts, challenging music, and exciting choreography. 
  • Students will explore and develop acting and vocal technique. 
  • Classes will hold auditions for individual roles and students will be challenged to develop original and exciting characters. 

Ages 9 – 13

  • Budding young actors will be challenged with more advanced scripts, staging, songs, and choreography. 
  • Teaching artists will provide individualized feedback and reinforce acting fundamentals to help students develop advanced performance technique. 

Advanced Ensemble: Ages 7 – 13

  • Previous training culminates in a professional rehearsal environment. 
  • Students will perform on a professional stage at the end of the session. 
  • This class meets twice per week.
  • Admission to this class is by approval only. 

Advanced Teen Ensemble: Ages 11 – 15

  • Our most mature students continue to build professional-level skills and grow as performers in our most advanced class. 
  • Students will perform on a professional stage at the end of the session. 
  • This class meets once per week. 
  • Admission to this class is by approval only.

Grown-Up & Me: Curious George


Class Description:

Join George and the Man in the Yellow Hat on their adventures throughout the city and through your student’s imagination! Actors will explore their own curiosity and use their bodies, voices, and imaginations, along with time making fun crafts making mischief like only George can! On the last day of class, students will share what they’ve learned in a final show even George would approve of!

Pete the Cat


Class Description:

Follow Pete and learn to keep it jazzy in this fun title based on the best-selling book! Students will create their own cool-cat characters and learn about their actor tools: their bodies, voices, and imaginations! Grab your shades and join us for a fun time that ends with a final show sure to keep your toes tappin’!

Pinkalicious


Class Description:

Come join Pinkalicious and her brother Peter on their journey of turning totally pink! This creative drama adventure will explore responsibility, eating vegetables, sibling relationships and, of course, the color PINK while having fun along the way! Pinkalicious will inspire our games, songs, and crafts. Students will perform their own original tale on the last day of class for family and friends that’s sure to be…Pinkalicious!

Descendants


Class Description:

Fairy tales don’t end at happily ever after. When kids of infamous fairy tale villains are offered the chance to live in the United States of Auradon, they leap at the chance. But are their motives good or evil? Students will explore complex characters to create a final show that examines the choices we all have between good and evil.

Tangled


Class Description:

Go on a tangled adventure following the magical, long-haired princess Rapunzel and a bandit named Flynn as they discover the world for the first time. Students will learn songs such as “I’ve Got a Dream,” “When Will My Life Begin,” and “I See the Light.” In addition, students will explore character development, choreography, movement, and stage directions with Emerald City Theatre’s professional teaching artists. The ensemble will present their enchanted show on the last day of class!

Oz Musicals


Class Description:

At Emerald City Theatre, we celebrate everything Oz! This musical theater camp will combine songs from The Wizard of OzThe Wiz, and Wicked to create a unique and extraordinary tale that centers around the Emerald City. Students will practice acting skills such as voice and diction, improvisation, singing, and dancing to prepare for an enchanting final show on the last day of class.

Annie


Class Description:

Leapin’ Lizards! Join Annie, Miss Hannigan, Rooster, and more as they sing and dance their way to Easy Street in this musical adventure class. Students will explore the world of their favorite spunky heroine along with her loyal friends to present a final show you’ll still be humming tomorrow. Remember, you’re never fully dressed without a smile!

Hamilton


Class Description:

Join Laurens, Lafayette, Mulligan, and Hamilton in the revolution that made America the country it is today. Our Hamilton-inspired camp will challenge students’ rhythm and storytelling skills while teaching about the founding of the country through contemporary rap, hip-hop, R&B, and pop music. This final show for family and friends on the last day of class is not to be missed!

Into the Woods


Class Description:

Students will brave the woods as classic Grimm’s fairytale characters—Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and his cow Milky White, a witch, and many more. These characters set off on a journey to break a curse and wind up changed forever. Students will be challenged with songs from the Tony award-winning musical by Stephen Sondheim and hone their skills in vocal technique, acting skills, and choreography. On the final day of class, family and friends will discover that happily ever after is only the beginning.

Matilda


Class Description:

Go on a magical journey led by Matilda, the smartest and most clever girl in school! Based on the beloved Roald Dahl novel, this is an extraordinary tale of underdogs who win big. Armed with sharp minds and vivid imaginations, students will work their magic to defeat the Trunchbull and learn songs from the Tony Award-winning musical. On the final day of class, students will perform in a plucky, heartwarming show for family and friends.

Wicked


Class Description:

Take a trip to the Emerald City with Elphaba, Glinda, and Fiyero. A smash-hit musical prequel to The Wizard of Oz, Wicked will take students to the next level in their performance skills with fantastic music, dance, and a story of being true to yourself. Learn what makes the Wicked Witch wicked, and the Good Witch good. Students are sure to defy gravity and stun family and friends during this spellbinding final show.

Advanced Ensemble: Best of Broadway


Class Description:

Combining some of Broadway’s biggest hits from classics like Newsies, Into the Woods, and Sound of Music to contemporary smash hits like Hamilton, Wicked, and Dear Evan Hansen and more! Students will focus on the finer details of performing musical theatre with an emphasis on dancing and vocal technique, to hone their skills and challenge them as performers. The final showcase will feature a number of Broadway hits, connected with characters created by the students. This class is for the Broadway expert who’s looking see their name in lights! Admission to this class is by approval only. Apply online; you will be notified if approved.

Freaky Friday


Class Description:

When a mother and daughter magically switch bodies, it leads to a totally Freaky Friday! In this new musical adaptation of a comedy classic, Katherine and Ellie only have 24 hours to switch back before Katherine’s wedding! Students will explore catchy songs and creative problem-solving to create a final show that’s way more fun than freaky.

Mean Girls: The Musical


Class Description:

Navigating high school is no joke, especially when you have to figure out if you’re predator or prey in the jungle of school cliques. A new musical adaptation of the hit movie explores what happens when new students adjust to high school’s social politics. What is the cost of popularity…and is it worth it? Students will be challenged to explore character motivation and objectives in this fun comedy that gets at the heart of what it means to be a friend, an enemy, and a Plastic.

Students will focus on the finer details of performing musical theatre with an emphasis on dancing and vocal technique, to hone their skills and challenge them as performers. The final showcase will feature a number of Broadway hits, connected with characters created by the students. Advanced Ensemble: Best of Broadway

Tuesdays & Thursdays, 4:15 – 6:15 PM 
Athenaeum Campus | $635

This ensemble meets twice a week for an experience that truly resembles a professional rehearsal process. Students audition for roles in the show and teaching artists challenge students with personal goals to enhance their growth as performers. At the end of each session, advanced ensemble students will perform on a professional stage for an audience of their family and friends.  This class is intended for students with past theatrical experience who want to take their rehearsal and performance skills to the next level.

Combining some of Broadway’s biggest hits from classics like Newsies, Into the Woods, and Sound of Music to contemporary smash hits like Hamilton, Wicked, and Dear Evan Hansen and more! Students will focus on the finer details of performing musical theatre with an emphasis on dancing and vocal technique, to hone their skills and challenge them as performers. Policies

Cancelation Policy

Emerald City Theatre has the right to cancel a class or camp up to one week prior to the start date. Refunds will be processed if a class is canceled. 

No refunds available if purchaser drops a class unless the spot can be filled from the waiting list. If a spot can be filled, a refund will be given after the deduction of a $25 administrative fee. 

Emerald City Theatre has the right to determine minimum enrollment. A refund will not be given if purchaser believes the enrollment is low. 

Switching of days/titles of a class will also incur a $25 administrative fee. 

Class enrollment is only valid toward the season enrolled and cannot be applied to a class or camp in a later season. 

Final Show Policy

Ages 7-12, 9-13, and Advanced Ensemble with regular class locations at The Athenaeum Theatre, as well as Advanced Teen Ensemble which meets at the Menomonee Club, will perform their final shows in a professional theater location to be announced in the upcoming weeks! 

Nut Policy

Emerald City Theatre’s classes and camps are NUT-FREE environments. This includes, but is not limited to, peanuts and tree nuts, including almonds and cashews. There is a strict no-sharing policy at all of our campuses.

Drop-off/Pick-up Policy

Drop-off begins 15 minutes prior to the start of camp or class. An ID MUST BE PRESENTED at pick-up in order to sign out a child. Children must be picked up no later than 15 minutes after camp or class ends. After the 15-minute pickup window closes, a late fee of $1/per minute per child will be charged and due upon arrival.

Student Cell Phone Policy

Cell phones, smart watches, and any other communication devices may not be used while class is in session, including break and lunch time. Students who bring cell phones must keep them in their backpacks and TURNED OFF while at class/camp. Videotaping/recording will be permitted on a case by case basis at the discretion of the teacher for the students’ own at-home rehearsal. Failure to follow these guidelines may result in confiscation of the phone until end of class/camp. If you need to communicate with your child, please call the office and we will relay information to the class/camp.
