How are the age recommendations for each play determined?
Age recommendations for each play are based on the text of the play and whether it contains abstract themes, a good deal of dialogue or does not have music. Typically a show is recommended for ages 3-6 if there is not a scary villain, the story line is simple or very familiar and especially if there is music (i.e. Snow White). A show is usually recommended for ages 5 and older if the story or characters are a little more complex and the villain is a little more on the scary side. (i.e. Jungle Book or Charlotte's Web). Our age recommendations are general; parents make the final decision as to when their child is old enough to enjoy and Emerald City performance.
May I bring my child age 0-3?
Most of our shows are recommended for children ages 3 and older, but children under 3 are welcome. Children under age 2 may attend for free as long as they sit on a lap.
What should I do if my child becomes noisy or restless?
Sometimes kids just need a break - especially the littler ones. If your child is becoming disruptive to those around you please exit through the rear of the theater and take them to the lobby until they are ready to return. Feel free to request an aisle seat if you would like to be ready for a "quick escape"!
Are there intermission during the plays?
Nope. Never.
When should we arrive?
For public shows, the lobby doors open 30 minutes prior to curtain. Lincoln Park traffic can be tough on the weekends. We suggest arriving by 15 minutes before so there's time for a restroom break -plus there's fun things to see in the Lobby!
When is your gift shop open?
Our merchandise counter is open after each performance. We carry books, educational and creative play toys related to productions at Emerald City. Also now available is Yellow Brick Road CD - Emerald City's best musical numbers over the past ten years. Gift certificates for shows are available by calling 773-529-2690.
Is the theatre wheelchair accessible?
Yes - a wheelchair lift provides access to the Lobby and Theater. We request you call ahead to let us know when you'll be coming.
