Summer and Fall 2008 Internships

Emerald City Theatre Company, Chicago’s 5th most attended non-profit theater is currently offering internship positions for the summer and fall of the 2008/2009 season in the following areas (see below). Interns should be able to work 2-3 days per week during regular office hours, 9:00am-5:00pm, Monday through Friday and weekends depending on the department. Interns may receive college credit. Once a candidate is selected for the position, start and end dates will be decided between manager and intern. The summer internship will span from June to August. The fall internship will span from September to mid-December.

Summer Internships Available

Arts Management Intern

This internship will touch all areas of theatre management, including market research and analysis, financial management, facility and office management, and HR assistance. Ideal candidates can communicate professionally, and are extremely organized and efficient multi-taskers. Microsoft Word and Excel proficiency required. IT experiences a plus. Audience Services

Process sales such as Camp Matinees, Theatre School enrollment and Subscriptions; create and maintain subscription databases and distribution, primary liaison between Emerald City Theatre and booked Camp Groups; design seating chart for performances; represent Emerald City at all Summer Matinee performances (Wed, Thurs, and Fri mornings); organization of historical sales information, sales analysis and market research; administrative and office management assistance. Must be available at least Wednesdays-Fridays 10am-1pm. To submit, send resume and cover letter to Melissa Klaas, Audience Services Manager.

Graphic Designer

Intern will complete the 2008/2009 season Study Guide design and create playbill templates under the supervision of the Marketing Coordinator. Qualified candidates will either currently have or be in the process of obtaining a degree in Graphics Design. Beginner / Intermediate level knowledge of design related programs, including PhotoShop, Illustrator, InDesign, QuarkXPress and Acrobat. Literary Management/Dramaturgy

Assist the Associate Artistic Director and Education Director. General tasks includes: assisting in the writing, editing, and proofreading of study guides, and other publications; reading and reporting on new scripts; assisting with the maintenance of the theatre script library; and performing general administrative and clerical tasks, such as copying and organizing materials. Candidates should have strong writing and communication skills as well a background in dramatic literature (TYA a plus). Should also have a special interest in the development of new works. Word processing skills and basic computer competence are highly desirable. To submit, send resume and cover letter to Ernie Nolan, Associate Artistic Director.

Education Intern

Assistant teach, administrative/managerial work, proposal writing, operational meetings, some production aspects, hands on work with kids. This is a great experience if you are looking to build a teacher resume. To submit, send resume to Jackie Stone, Education Director.

Marketing and Special Events Intern

Primary responsibility will be to assist the Marketing Coordinator and Fundraising Committee in preparation for Emerald City’s annual fundraising gala, the OZ Ball. Duties include posting lobby/window signage, postering, making pitch calls for OZ Ball silent auction, involvement in OZ Ball and donor cultivation planning, attend monthly OZ Ball Board Committee meetings, and other duties as assigned. Production Intern

Production Intern for Fall 2008 needed to assist with production coordination for the remainder of the season. Duties include, but are not limited to, assisting with coordination of actors and production teams; maintaining production schedules; budget tracking; general office duties. Interns will have the opportunity to work hands-on. Various duties and projects will provide a broad range of production management experience.
