Little Theatre

Emerald City’s Little Theatre

Thank you for a wonderful five years! Emerald City’s Little Theatre at 2933 N Southport in Lakeview has closed due to a planned new condo development. As we search for a new venue in which to present theater for the very young, we will continue to serve ages 0 – 5 with classes, touring workshops, and special events.

The Little Theatre, which opened in April 2013, was the nation’s first facility dedicated to theater for the very young. ECT presented original, interactive works for ages 0 – 5 in the Little Theatre, including Mother Goose’s Garden and The Teddy Bears’ Picnic. The space was also used for classes, camps, and birthday parties.

Fun facts about the Little Theatre:

  • During its five-year tenure, the Little Theatre served 20,000 children and their grown-ups.
  • Four world-premiere productions for ages 0 – 5 graced its stage.
  • There were over 650 performances.
  • We served 800 babies younger than one year.
  • The Little Theatre was designed as a safe, interactive, and immersive space with the needs of very young children in mind.
  • The artwork created in partnership with Land of Nod lives on in ECT’s newly redecorated classroom in the Athenaeum Theatre.
  • ECT’s work at the Little Theatre inspired several touring workshops, sponsored by AMITA Health, in the Chicagoland suburbs.
  • The Little Theatre hosted 126 birthday parties.
