Marketing Manager 

Job Title: Emerald City Theatre Marketing Manager
Type of Employment: Full-Time, Special Events as needed.
Department: Marketing
Reports to: Marketing & Audience Services Director
Purpose: This role is responsible for execution of all marketing projects and initiatives. This includes assisting in the creation of all marketing plans, plan execution, and market research.

Main Duties:

  • Marketing/Communication Calendar Maintenance and Creation (20%)
  • Budget/Finances (10%)
  • Execute Ad Buys (20%)
  • Website Maintenance (15%)
  • Project Organization, Execution, and Proofing (20%)
  • Marketing Analysis & Analytics (15%)

Marketing/Communication Calendar Maintenance and Creation (20%)

  • Assist Dir. of Marketing in brainstorming comprehensive season, show, and education marketing plans.
  • Document all marketing plans in planning calendar, identifying key dates and deadlines.
  • Update Marketing calendar as timelines are adjusted or new projects included.
  • Execute scheduled Marketing Partnerships & recommend/brainstorm discount codes and promotional events
  • Oversee project timelines in relation to company goals
  • Develop & research marketing and sales strategies
  • Maintain an understanding of all relevant marketing opportunities and make recommendations
  • Research Marketing opportunities/where to list
  • Create and modify survey schedule, as needed for all areas of programming and aligning with marketing plans

Budget/Finances (10%)

  • Execute Marketing Department’s accurate tracking of approved expenses
  • Align budget with marketing calendar, adjusting as needed.
  • Manage the Marketing budget including monthly reconciliation work and finance update meetings.
  • Identify and recommend most cost-effective distribution strategies for all copy, collateral, visuals, video, etc.
  • Incorporate promotional appearances into marketing plan/budget as they become available.

Advertising Buys: Print, Digital, Promotional Exchange (20%)

  • Using approved marketing plans, research and recommend advertising buys or exchanges.
  • Within the limits of approved budget, purchase digital or print advertising space.
  • Follow up on billing and invoicing, reflect in budget.
  • Execute ad buys, working with creatives to obtain appropriate assets.
  • Follow up on efficacy and report out to Marketing Dir.
  • Act as point person to marketing partners such as BIC, Chicago Kids, Red Tricycle, etc
  • Execute promotional exchanges set up through PR company

Website (15%)

  • Update website to accurately reflect current programming: on sales of off sales.
  • Update home page to reflect current company communication priorities.
  • Edit and adjustment web copy for communication clarity & company updates.
  • Oversee website visuals to ensure that all pages are up to date and reflect current company marketing strategies
  • Using approved copy/design, update web content accordingly.

Organization/Project Execution/Proofing (20%)

  • Maintain digital and physical archives of all marketing assets and PR.
  • Act as a marketing liaison during inter-departmental statuses to aid in communication and project completion.
  • Work with artistic team to fully understand needs of promo appearance/special event: costumes, tech, etc
  • Communicate promotional appearances to venue to work through logistics
  • Execute playbill creation: gather and track needed materials, create copy document, route for proofing
  • Proof and route all designed collateral to relevant parties, keeping routing process aligned with marketing calendar target dates.
  • Proof all outgoing company communications.

Marketing Analysis & Analytics (15%)

  • Manage and keep current Google Adwords account
  • Assist in Google Analytics and Internet Report Card tracking
  • Assist in analyzing Data and Report Website Visits, Social Media Activities and Email Campaigns.
  • Create audience surveys, ensuring consistency in formatting, style, and questions.
  • Decide and strategically segment recipients in Patron Manager for eblasts
  • Report on efficacy: open rates, click through rates. Make recos for future plans, content, and subject lines.

 Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Candidates must have a minimum 2-4 years professional work experience, preferably in arts administration or a cultural organization environment
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively under tight deadlines and manage multiple priorities in a deadline driven work environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and systematically compile technical and statistical information and to prepare reports and correspondence.
  • Possess high creativity and demonstrated ability in project management, print and digital marketing, and research and reporting.
  • Possess a high level of professionalism, initiative and integrity.
  • Demonstrated resourcefulness in solving problems.
  • Creativity, vision, attention to detail, and strong editing skills required.
  • Strong work ethic, flexibility and willingness to handle new and different tasks.
  • Strong written, oral, and interpersonal skills.

  • Must be able to lift boxes up to 25 lbs.

Compensation

Compensation will be commensurate with experience and is competitive with prevailing compensation for similar positions within the non-profit performing arts industry. Benefits package includes medical, vision, and dental insurance, vacation pay, and paid sick leave.

Design and Content Coordinator 

Job Title: Emerald City Theatre Design & Content Coordinator
Type of Employment: Full-Time, Special Events as needed.
Department: Marketing
Reports to: Marketing & Audience Services Director
Purpose: This role is responsible for managing the creation of all marketing designs and digital media. Includes creation of marketing design concepts, execution of design projects, management of freelance designers, and digital dissemination of design.

  • Content Creation (25%)
  • Design Management (50%)
  • Social Media & Eblast Creation (20%)
  • Company Collaboration & Communication (5%)

Content Creation: Videos, photo shoots, design (25%)

  • Work with department leaders to conceptualize content and brainstorm raw design material for all programming
  • Using communication concepts approved by leadership, creates content proposals supporting marketing goals.
  • Shares written proposals with Marketing team, edits proposals as needed.
  • Identify preferred assets for designed pieces.
  • Schedule and execute photoshoots and filming, as needed.
  • Create and distribute shot lists or copy points, as needed.
  • Create copy for all documents.
  • Assist in finding visual inspiration for all performances and programs.

Design Management (50%)

  • Create or oversee the creation of key collateral and content:
    • Collateral: Signage, Study Guide, Playbill Inserts, Edu Playbills
    • Digital Design: Photo Editing (discount codes, review quotes, social media images, etc)
    • Signage: Events, Front of House
    • Video Content: Pillar videos (trailer, behind the scenes, green carpet, review reel), Event Slideshows
    • Digital Ads: Google, facebook, ad buys, etc.
  • Communicate clear directives to the design team:
    • Graphic Designer: Show Art, Season Art, Edu Logos, Event Logos, Step & Repeat, Posters & Postcards
    • Photographer: Special Event “Candid” Shots, Production Shots
    • Videographer: Show Footage, Cast/Crew Interviews, Special Event Footage, Archival Footage
  • Hire freelance designers (graphic, videographer, photographer) as needed.
  • Communicate approved marketing plans & concepts impacting graphic design, photography, and videography.
  • Proof, and route for proofing, all pieces.
  • Stick to deadlines identified in marketing calendar.
  • Communicate design edits and additional design needs to the team.
  • Schedule design projects according to priority level and deadlines noted in marketing calendar.

Social Media (10%)

  • Create a comprehensive Social Media Plan for each ECT initiative which includes the following elements: B-Roll footage day, first read, staff run, event footage and video, live-stream, etc.
  • Strategic scheduling of social media calendar, in response to comprehensive, full-season Marketing plans.
  • Use ECT “voice” at all times.
  • Create copy and design posts supporting company marketing plans.
  • Proof and edit all posts prior to distribution.
  • Respond to all comments/feedback from patrons on social media.

Eblast Creation (10%)

  • Using marketing plans, schedule and execute all email marketing activities.
  • Create copy and design for all eblasts (newsletters, thank you emails, event invites, etc).
  • Proof, and route for proofing, all eblasts
  • Make recos for future plans, content, and subject lines.

Communication (5%)

  • Communicate overarching company marketing goals to each department on a weekly basis
  • Strategize and report in weekly meetings with all departments.
  • Act as a marketing liaison during inter-departmental statuses to aid in communication and project completion.
  • Proof all outgoing company communications.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Previous experience in basic graphic design, experience using Adobe InDesign package.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively under tight deadlines and manage multiple priorities in a deadline driven work environment.
  • Strong written, oral, and interpersonal skills required.
  • Creativity, vision, attention to detail, and strong editing skills required.
  • Must possess high creativity and demonstrated ability in project management.
  • Must possess a high level of professionalism, initiative, and integrity.

Teaching Artists

Teaching Artists for Summer Camp 2019

Emerald City Theatre, Chicago’s most attended theatre for children ages 0 – 13, seeks lead and assistant teaching artists for Emerald City Summer Camps. Teaching artists report to the Associate Education Director. Their primary responsibility is to facilitate summer camps for ages 3.5-15. Summer Camp sessions are 1-2 weeks in length, between June 4 and August 17. Camps for ages 3.5-5 are half-day (9am-12pm/1pm-4pm), and camps for ages 5-15 are full day (9am-3pm). At this time, Emerald City Theatre is primarily looking for Assistant Teaching Artists, though we are also accepting resumes for Lead Teaching Artists

LEAD TEACHING ARTIST JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Emerald City Teaching Artists are practicing theatre artists in the city of Chicago who are committed to building an appreciation of theatre in their students through education in theatre practices.
  • Lead Teaching Artists will remain with their students for the duration of the camp session. This includes following all drop-off and pick-up procedures.
  • Utilize curriculum guidelines to create theatre class content that is developmentally appropriate and supports the class theme.
  • Lead Teaching Artists are responsible for submitting lesson plans and being prepared for all class sessions.
  • During class, Lead Teaching Artists will lead students in activities which may include: acting exercises, teaching or accompanying songs, directing a scene, or creating choreography. Lead Teachers should contribute their own talents to the instruction of the students and provide opportunities for the Assistant T.A. to contribute to the class as well.
  • Lead Teaching Artist will provide appropriate feedback to Assistant Teaching Artist regarding teaching and classroom management techniques.
  • Lead Teaching Artist will ensure that all parents receive communications from the Emerald City Theatre Education Department.
  • Lead Teaching Artists are responsible for attending all faculty meetings and reporting any problems that arise with students and/or parents to the Education Department.
  • Lead Teaching Artists will act as creator and director for the class’s final presentation to be performed at the final class session.

Qualifications:

  • Currently working as a theatre artist OR have formal training theatre, music, or dance
  • Lead Teaching Artists should have 3-4 years of experience working with young people ages 13 or younger in arts education.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral.
  • Be physically able to teach, which may include standing for long periods of time, sitting on the floor, or walking up and down stairs
  • Upon hire, teachers will be subject to a criminal background check through the Illinois State Police and FBI and checked against the Illinois Sex Offender Registry and the Violent Offender Against Youth Database. Some placements require fingerprinting and additional Child Sexual Abuse training.
